In a covert Romanian facility, Erik Heller evades security to rescue baby Hanna. 15 years on, father and daughter live deep in the Polish forest. Erik has trained Hanna to be an incredible killer and hunter. Yet, keen to grow beyond the boundaries of her isolated world, she begins to venture away from home. This attracts the attention of CIA agent Marissa Wiegler, who has hunted Hanna since birth. Hanna befriends a vacationing family and in short order is exposed to the indulgences of teen life she had been deprived of. Her father, Eric, continues on a journey to eventually meet up with Hanna. Hanna and Erik are finally reunited in Berlin, where he introduces her to his old army friends and allies. As they hide out in a disused military bunker, planning their next step, Hanna begins to learn more about her father's past. However, having glimpsed a normal family life with Sophie, she becomes increasingly frustrated at her own and at the restrictions Erik imposes on her. Meanwhile, having tracked them down to Berlin with the help of Jacobs, Marissa and her CIA colleague Meisner arrive in the city. They begin to delve into Erik's past, seeking old connections ... Erik is holding Marissa prisoner in a disused water tower, trying to negotiate a deal to get him and Hanna safely out of Berlin. Jacobs attempts to track Marissa down but quickly discovers who has the upper hand. Meanwhile, Hanna hides out with Dieter and his family, much to the concern of Dieter's wife Sima. Desperate to know more about what her father is up to, Hanna follows Dieter on a nocturnal trip to the water tower. In doing so she begins to learn that there is more about Erik's past than he has been telling her. As Erik's escape plan begins to come together, ... Still reeling from her revelations about Erik, Hanna hides out in suburban London with Sophie who is keeping her new friend secret from her parents. Sophie is housing Hanna in the family caravan in a nearby garage. Concerned at Hanna's grief-like state, Sophie persuades her to attend a school party, where Hanna meets Sophie's friends including a very cute boy named Anton, who she quickly realises Sophie also feels very strongly about. Meanwhile, unable to go to the hospital for fear of capture, Erik's friends desperately try to save him from the life-threatening ... Sophie and Hanna's relationship begins to turn sour over their shared interest in Anton. In the fallout from this argument, Marissa arrives at Sophie's house pretending to be Hanna's mother. Hanna finds herself torn between endangering Sophie and her family, or giving up her own freedom and going with Marissa. Meanwhile, a captured Erik is brutally interrogated by Sawyer and his men. Realising that Hanna will no longer accept anything but the full truth, Erik takes her back to Romania so she can learn more about who she is. As the two journey across Europe, their travels take them through places from Erik's past, bringing up old memories and bringing him and Hanna cautiously closer again. As they journey through Germany, they stop off at Erik's mother's home, where Hanna learns more about Erik's own background. Furious at still being kept out of the loop by Sawyer, Marissa refuses to stop searching for Erik and Hanna. In the process, she begins to... When Erik reveals to Hanna the truth about Utrax, she is determined to take action. Meanwhile, Marissa attempts to find out from Sawyer what has really been going on at the facility. Deep in the Romanian forest, Hanna and Clara can taste their freedom. Hanna persuades Clara to remove her Utrax drug-implant and to banish her past identity. Clara seems content. But when they raid a holiday cabin and Clara finds a photograph of a mother and daughter, the image stirs something deep within her: a desire to find her own biological mother. The remaining trainees are transported to The Meadows, where they are introduced to their group leaders, Leo Garner and Joanna McCoy, and assigned identities to help them assimilate into society - a task overseen by ... Marissa returns to Paris with Hanna, feeling tense. She knows she is being followed. Suspicious of her office replacement, Sonia Richter, who is reporting directly to Carmichael, Marissa gives Hanna a complete makeover before arranging for her to start a new life with an old teacher in the Canadian wilderness. Meanwhile over at The Meadows, Clara's implant is replaced and she is brought up to speed by Leo, who informs her that Hanna is dead, and her only future is now here. Her new name is Clemency, and her fellow trainees will welcome her with open arms. At Hanna's request, Marissa agrees to help save Clara from The Meadows and arranges a passport for her, so that she can join Hanna in Canada. Hanna returns to Passway, where she locates Dumont's car and follows him as he leaves in a stolen vehicle. Marissa discovers that Sonia isn't in the office and instantly she is suspicious. She calls Sonia and traces her call to Belgium - she's here, after them - Sonia finds Monica, the trialist that Hanna posed as earlier, and she confirms that it was Hanna who took her place. At The Meadows, Carmichael deduces that someone must... The morning after her beating, Marissa wakes to a call from Carmichael, informing her that Hanna is at The Meadows. They arrange to meet at a pick-up point in England. En route, Marissa sends her location to an unknown number before deliberately crashing her car in a bid to explain her bruises, hiding a transmitter at the site. Later at The Meadows, Marissa observes the inner functions of the Ops room and Carmichael asks Marissa to convince Hanna to join them. Following Marissa's failed break-out attempt, Carmichael accuses her of being involved in both Sonia and Sawyer's deaths and locks her in a cell at The Meadows' Staff Headquarters. Meanwhile, the other trainees attempt to help Hanna settle into life as 'Mia', but Hanna struggles, feeling as though she is betraying her real mother - and Erik. Hanna proves her worth to the programme by leading her team to victory in a military training exercise, during which she notices Mannion watching her from the external perimeter. Carmichael receives intel that a British journalist, Nicola Gough, and an internal source, codenamed 'Tacitus', are arranging to meet, and he informs Hanna and Jules that they are to embark on their first mission - to 'intercept' the journalist before she can meet with Tacitus. Marissa finds herself in Camp G, Morocco, where she is kept under close watch, whilst in London, Hanna and Jules, pose as university students at the London university where Nicola's partner, Bethany, works.
