Barcelona humbled in 4 goal loss to Osasuna
2024-09-29
Barcelona had won seven of their previous seven league games going into their eighth game of the year, an away trip to Osasuna. They lost 4-2 at Estadio El Sadar to Vicente Moreno's mean, and they were unable to extend their run to eight. Barcelona now leads the table with 21 points, four points clear of Real Madrid in second place despite having played one more game.
With a 4-2 victory at Estadio El Sadar, Osasuna ended Barcelona's undefeated Liga season thanks to a brace from Ante Budimir.
The hosts led by two goals in the 1st half thanks to goals from Budimir and Bryan Zaragoza, but Pau Victor cut the gap in half soon after.
In the 72nd minute, Budimir scored his second goal from the penalty spot, and in the last moments of the game, Abel Bretones put Hansi Flick's team out of the game.
Although Lamine Yamal scored a late consolation goal, the Catalan club was unable to capitalize on it.
Barcelona will play BSC Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League next.
After Osasuna manager Vincente Moreno stated in his pre-match press conference that his team would need to play a "perfect game" to have a chance of picking up points against the Liga leaders, it was a fierce battle with the home team bringing the game to Barcelona early on.
